Alohamorta is a point-and-click game about the importance of funerals, processing the sudden death of a young adult, and the importance of talking about death with relatives before it happens. It's understandably a difficult subject, but discussing what you want and don't want can hopefully spare some hardship if it should happen in the future. Talking about death shouldn't be taboo.
You play as the older sister of the deceased younger sister, who is tasked with organizing the funeral. The player can go through emails, talk with people in a chat, and go trough the old mindscape of the deceased. They live in a futuristic world where some people choose to implant a CHIP in their brain for situations like these, so the mindscape can be accessed. The older sister must painfully find out what her little sister would want for her funeral, and try to get closure for her death.
This project was in collaboration with Janna Dijkstra (game design), Brian Timothy (game design), and Eva van de Scheer (game development). I was the game artist and we worked together on the concept.
These are the emails the player must go through to find information and organize the funeral.
